[rs=2] | "Hey there, buddy! As you probably already know, my name is Alvin Russell. Pleasure to meet ya! As you can probably tell from my... enthusiastic greeting, I'm a fairly easy going guy. There isn't much that a person can do to bring me down because I'm the ultimate optimist. Being raised around a pessimistic father will do that to ya, I tell ya! Nonetheless, even on my worst day, I'll flash a smile as wide as the entire country because a smile goes a long way in brightening not only your day, but somebody else's. Corny, right? But, seriously, it's the truth! What good is it living on this gorgeous planet if you are not happy to just be alive and free? We all make mistakes, but we cannot let those mistakes consume us. Mistakes are essential to life and they are needed to make us better people. All the more reason to be optimistic. Let's see... interesting things about me. Well, I have changed my major like... twice since I've been in college. I went from History (blah) to Philosophy (double blah) to now Art. Art, I guess, is kind of my thing. I'm a very talented artist, if I do say so myself and I love to cook. I wish there was a Culinary Arts major, but I don't think that the university offers that. Bummer, right? It's okay, though. I work at a restaurant part time and I serve as a chef. No, not at a fast food place. I worked there once. Never again. Anyway, I work at a gourmet restaurant; the only reason why I got the job is because when I took my friend Sera out to eat for her birthday and I completely bashed the chefs for preparing horrible food. Then, the guy had the audacity to question if I could do better than him, so I did. And, voila, here I am: a chef of a gourmet restaurant with no degree to my name, yet. Speaking of Sera, I actually met her in a philosophy class and we hit it off ever since we were partnered up with a presentation. She's a pretty close friend of mines now. Don't tell her I said nice things about her, capiche? My family is interesting to say the least. We're kind of traditional, if you will. My father is a CFO of a company (he wants me to follow in his footsteps, blah), my mother is a stay-at-home mom, and my sister is a bratty piece of human who's in junior high school. Aside from my great relationship with my mother and my obvious love-hate relationship with my little sister, perhaps the most conflicting relationship I have with a family member is my father. He wants me to pretty much be everything he was when he was growing up: alpha male, dominant guy, and all around douche bag. Okay, maybe he's not a douche bag, but geez, he sure acts like one sometimes! He fails to understand that I don't want to be an accountant or a lawyer or whatever! I find the ultimate enjoyment in seeing others smile. I often put others before myself, but that's fine with me! Because if you're happy, I'm happy! Eventually, I'll win my dad over when he realizes that I want to be a chef. My job pays pretty good money and I'm not even the head chef yet! Hopefully during my time at the U, I can figure out exactly what I want to do when I graduate and hopefully I can continue to build relationships with the people around me. I'm friends with everyone, but as I said before, my best bud is Sera. She's cool girl to be around sincere and bubbly. Sera's cute, but I don't think she'll ever give me the time of day in that regard. She's all googoo eyes over some other guy right now. It's fine. I support her one hundred percent. But I guess I'm not completely happy about it, which is weird because normally when I see her happy, I'm happy. Ah. I'll get over it!" |
